ON

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
We are passing through a time of great changes in the nature and sources of commercial wealth. Exploitation
of Patent Portfolio has become an industry in itself as the Patents have global reach and the cost of
development and protection of Patent is enormous. It is therefore necessary to understand important Patent
issues leading to successful evaluation on scope of patent, its protection and enforcement of patent right, as
the suffering from the loss of patent could cause serious blow. In today's business, Intellectual Property is a
sparkling asset. In fact, patents are the spark plugs that give thunderous start and bring the investments in
monetary, fixed and intangible assets to profitable life, which otherwise could well remain dormant.
Globalization, the scale of operation, the changing legal compliance and the speed of communication, are the
major reasons for its growth. Patents which provide monopoly is not only the dictate of large business
establishments, who also have many other ways to show their strength, but patents can provide a great lead to
small and medium business establishments. At the same time the reach of Patent is expanding with the growth
of international trade and globalization of economic activities, and has given the whole business a new
paradigm. That is why the number of major Patent Wars are growing between competitors and
contemporaries, besides growing threat from international exploiters.
The monopoly rights granted through patent can only be utilised if there is comprehensive knowledge of
various patent related issues more so when the National Patent Laws & Practices differ substantially between
the Nations, in terms of Grant, Scope, Protection and Enforcement mechanisms and more importantly the
standards for protection and enforcement as applied by the National judiciary often vary widely, among
countries. Therefore understanding of Patent Laws and Practices prevalent not only in India but also across
the world particularly in Europe, United States and Japan, being three large markets becomes critical. It is in
this direction that the three-day workshop is organized to impart in-depth knowledge to understand the nittygritty
of Patent Regime with focus on Electronics, Software, Telecommunication, Electrical & Mechanical
domains for exploitation of monopoly rights granted through Patent to the best advantage of the Indian
corporate.
HOW THE WORKSHOP IS UNIQUE
This Workshop features the presentation of all important patent issues such as identity of invention and priority,
types of claims and its relevance to the broadness of claims, formulation of set of claims, drafting, prosecution
and examination procedure, including practical exercise on drafting of patent applications and patent
prosecution. The composition of the team is a unique gathering of Patent Attorneys, Patent Examiners and
Chairman of Technical Board of Appeal, who have extensive years of experience in their professional fields,
and will put across to the delegates the real insight of Patent Laws and Practices as prevalent and practiced in
European Patent Office, United States, Japan and India. The Workshop will provide an opportunity to receive
first-hand information including recent Judgment on various issues from the experts in the fields.
This is a one time opportunity when Patent Experts from varied backgrounds and having enormous expertise
and different perception would be interacting with limited delegates and would answer to any question that the
delegates may have. The speakers have thorough knowledge on the subject and have been exerting in the
field for many decades. The composition of the team is so selected that the R& D scientist, IP Managers, Patent
Attorney and Legal Corporate team will get to know the real insight and nitty-gritty followed at Europe, United
States, Japan and at India. The Knowledge gained from the workshop will go a long way in formulating the right
patent strategy and building Patent Portfolio. Delegates will have ample opportunities to discuss personal
patent problems on a confidential basis with all or any of the speakers since the arrangement for stay for all the
delegates and the speakers are made in the same complex, which has best of the ambience and infrastructure.
