ABOUT THE SEMINAR
The modern economy is fast emerging as a global economy. The foundation
and focus of business have shifted from National Scenario to
International Scenario, wherein the Geographical boundaries are
disappearing for making business a “Global Market Place”. As a result
the
composition of world business is changing and one centrifugal force
that is supporting this change and would regulate more closely in time
to come is International Intellectual Property Laws & Practices.
Therefore understanding of International Intellectual Property Laws and
Practices for regulating and protecting one’s business, world over,
becomes critical for the business growth. The exploitation of
Intellectual
Property has become an Industry in itself, as the cost of development
and protection of Intellectual Property is enormous and the suffering
from
the loss of Intellectual Property could be fatal. The numbers of major
“Intellectual Property Wars” are growing between competitors and
contemporaries, besides growing threat from international exploiters,
causing great damages to one’s Intellectual Property.
At the same time, National
Intellectual Property Laws & Practices differ substantially between
the Nations, in terms of Grant, Scope, Registration, Renewal,
Protection and Enforcement mechanisms and more importantly the
standards for protection and enforcement as applied by the judiciary
often vary widely among countries. Therefore the companies must have
reasonable and fair assessment to international protection of their
Intellectual Property, for which they need to understand broadly
International Laws & Practices. Industrial houses considering or
obtaining grant of Patents & Trade Mark registrations and their
protection thereafter, as a necessity, either as pro-active or as
defensive strategy, need to understand many more issues such as
identity of invention and priority, types of claims, formulation of set
of claims, drafting and prosecution for patent dealing to successfully
evaluate and enforce patent right and scope of protection. The issues
related to Trade Mark could be the risk that trademark registration may
be subjected to, cancellation for non use, how valuable it could be
against counterfeiters, how registration could strengthen the value of
license, how national first registrants exclusive trademark right could
prevent foreign registration, the willingness of court to protect a
trademark and the economics of gaining and protecting the right abroad,
among other allied issues. The Seminar is organized to deliberate all
these issues and provide the Indian Industry first hand information on
various aspects of Patent and Trade Mark Laws & Practices in U.S.A.
The Seminar is a platform to understand, deliberate and clarify all
doubts on the subject, which otherwise may not be possible in short
spell. Therefore the Seminar is must for those who are involved in
developing, protecting and promoting the Patents and Trade Mark in any
manner.
HOW THE SEMINAR IS UNIQUE
This
Seminar features the presentation of advanced topics in the pharma,
biotech and trademark fields
by the unique gathering of Patent Attorneys, Trademark Attorneys and
Litigators, with extensive years of experience in their professional
fields,
who are heading their respective departments from one large
International IP Firm, SUGHRUE MION, who can put across to the
delegates the
real insight of IP Laws and Practices as prevalent in United States.
This is an outstanding educational and networking opportunity for
those involved in the development, protection and promotion of
Intellectual Property in any manner. The conference will provide an
opportunity
to receive first-hand information from experts form the single
organization on the latest development affecting Patents and Trade
Marks in
U.S.A., including recent Judgment on various issues. The speakers have
thorough knowledge on the subject and have been practicing in the
field for many decades. The speaking materials will be sent to the
delegates registered for the conference in advance for better
understanding and deliberation during the seminar.
For a closer
understanding of the subject, the seminar is distinctly divided in two
parts. Part 1 is directed to
Advanced Topics related to Patent Issues in Pharmaceuticals and
Biotechnology. Part 2 is directed to Trade Mark Practice in the U.S
with a
focus on acquisition Do’s and Don’ts for Indian Industry. The delegates
have the option to join the one day programme or both days.
However, a Corporation with a single registration for both the days may
nominate different delegates for each of the days. A question and
answer session at the end of the programme each day provides delegates
with the opportunity to discuss any questions they may have
with the speakers. If an individual meeting is required by any delegate
with any of the speakers the same would also be arranged as
for as possible keeping in mind the time constrains. However to provide
informal discussion the cocktail cum dinner is organized on the
first day of the programme, wherein the delegates joining on any of the
day would be requested to join.
ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
The
Institute of Intellectual Property Research and Practice was
established in the year 1995, primarily
to provide industrial training and education in the field of
intellectual property rights, their practices and legal enforcement in
an international
scenario. Intellectual property being intangible in nature is more
fragile and needs international protection and commercialization in a
global economy
, in order to protect and commercialize intellectual property, the
knowledge and update of International Scenario of intellectual property
is critical. Therefore the institute has been regularly holding
international seminars as one of its focused activities to educate and
sensitize Indian industry
with international happenings in intellectual property. The Institute
organizes these seminars on its own or in collaboration with various
Government and international agencies.
The Institute also provides a platform and medium to exploit
intellectual assets to maximize economic gains and
hone intellectual skills in the field of IPR in India. In this
direction the Institute has established a Valuation Center which
undertakes valuation
of all kinds of intellectual properties and an IPR Audit Cell, in order
to make IPR as low investment growth mantra and manage IPR-Risk.
The Institute also provides assistance in transfer of technology,
licensing, remittance, accounting of damages for infringements,
verification of royalties
and license fee to foreign countries and many more cognate and allied
subjects. The Institute has a centrally air-conditioned and well laid
out
premises. It has well furnished and equipped library holding more than
3000 books on intellectual property itself and all facilities are
